During Fall Break, we will be upgrading the campus cable programming from analog to digital. Expanded campus Cable TV programming after the upgrade will include a total of 90 channels, adding 34 more channels to the current programming. An updated list of channels can be found at Media Services - Cable Television.
The upgrade will begin on Monday, October 20, and will be finished by the end of the day on Friday, October 24. Cable TV service to campus will be unavailable during this period.
What You Need to Know and Do after the Upgrade is Complete:
Rescan the channels on your television. Learn how under the Scanning for channels section of the IT KnowledgeBase articleConnecting your TV to DePauw’s cable programming.
After the upgrade, a television, DVR, or other TV device will be required to have a QAM tuner to receive DePauw cable programming. Most televisions manufactured since 2010 have a QAM tuner built-in and will work through a coaxial cable connected directly to a cable TV jack. Many older or low-cost televisions, however, will require an external QAM tuner box.
Review your owners manual to see if your device has a QAM tuner. If you have misplaced your manual, try searching online since many manufacturers post this information.
If your TV is not QAM-ready, you will need to purchase a QAM tuner. Amazon as well as many other retailers have a selection of digital converter boxes available to the consumer. Information on cable tuners with QAM installed may be found on theInformation Services Cable Television website under the Television Compatibility section.
In September, we reached out to faculty members and departments for classroom or large venue needs and have included those responses to our fall break upgrade schedule. However, please contact Media Services if you have any further concerns about our plans for classrooms or large venues.
