Heartbleed Bug. #AnnounceIT

There has been significant media coverage of the Heartbleed Bug, which is a serious vulnerability that was recently discovered in the Internet’s OpenSSL security method, and Information Services has been working to address the issue for campus systems and services.

If you have used your DePauw University Google Apps Account to log into any external (non-DePauw) sites, we encourage you to change your password by following the step-by-step instructions on our IT KnowledgeBase article Change password: Google Apps account (email)

Information Services takes security issues such as these very seriously.  While the appropriate technical response is relatively clear and we have taken the necessary precautions for DePauw, we urge you to familiarize yourself with the risks associated with passwords and personal information on various popular services.  A number of major sites are asking people to change their passwords including Google, Facebook, Tumblr and Yahoo. It is important to note that changing your password at non-DePauw sites only protects you if the site has fixed the issue and that not all Internet sites had the issue to begin with.
