New secure password requirements in e-Services accounts

Next week, e-Services will require stronger passwords to ensure greater security of the sensitive information contained in the system.

In the new requirements, everyone’s e-Services password must be changed at least once every 12 months and meet the following characteristics:

• 8 or more characters in length
• 3 of the following:
    - at least one uppercase character
    - at least one lowercase character
    - at least one number (0-9)
    - at least one special character (#,*,$, etc.)

Since February 16, after you log in to e-Services, you will have noticed a password expiration countdown notice at the top of the screen. Students, faculty and staff have also received e-mails telling them their password expires within this 30 day window.

If you don’t change the password by the end of your expiration countdown, the next time you log in to e-Services it will require you to change it before proceeding in the system.

Once you have changed the password, your countdown is reset and e-Services require you to change it again in 12 months.
